FAQ
Do you do tours for non-school groups?
My tours are mainly aimed at school groups, as well as home-educated groups/families and youth
clubs. My tours are aimed primarily at KS2 and KS3 levels; however, I can adapt my tours for KS1 and
KS4. It’s always best to discuss your requirements in advance by contacting me.
Sorry, but my tours are not aimed at groups of adults, or college/university students. There are many
other tour guides working in York who could help you with that.
How long does a tour last?
Most of my tours are 1 hour 30 mins -1 hour 45 mins long. It’s always best to allow some
flexibility for the length of your tour. I am happy to run longer or shorter tours. Please contact me to
discuss your requirements. The lengths of the tours do not include any breaks; however, I am very
happy to plan a break in for you at an appropriate point and increase the timings accordingly.
How will I know the route of the tour?
My tours are listed with starting and finishing points, lengths and key places we visit. Additional
route information can be provided when you book or when you contact me with an enquiry. The
routes are mainly on level pavements and short sections on grass. A couple of my tours include short
sections of city wall footpaths (including stairs) and these are listed in the tour description. Most
routes involve some road crossings, but my tours have been planned to keep these to as few as
possible. If you have any concerns e.g. with mobility issues, please discuss this with me so I can plan
an alternative route for you, if needed. I also provide risk assessments for my tours.
Is there a maximum or minimum amount that can attend a tour?
Groups should ideally be up to 30 pupils; with a ratio of at least 1 adult per 8 pupils. Slightly larger
groups e.g. 31 or 32 are fine. For a larger group i.e. 34 or more pupils, it will be best to split your
group into 2 groups within the same day – please contact me to discuss pricing deals for booking
more than one tour and to plan an itinerary. (Some areas of York can be very busy, making it difficult
for very large groups to manoeuvre and maintain timings).
Smaller groups are also possible, whether you are a smaller school, a home education family/group,
or youth club.
